Story

The college was abuzz with excitement for the upcoming annual fest. After two years of virtual editions due to the pandemic, it was a big deal to host a physical event, once again. Like everyone he knew, he too was excited, but wasn’t sure they would have a place for him, at any event.

However, his friends were having none of it. “You have so many talents within you. It’s time to embrace them and shine!” they insisted. “Don’t you wish to be like your favourite influencers? Why, just the other day, you were so keen to come out as the first trans woman in our college! Why do you doubt yourself so much?” However, he walked away in silence.

The next day, he was called away from class to participate in an acting audition. While he was taken aback, his friends’ knowing smiles assured him that it was them who had nominated him. At the audition, he decided to play the role of Hermione Granger, and nailed her mannerisms and voice. The judges seemed to concur and, to his surprise, he landed the part. He rushed back to his friends, happy to have gone beyond the box that society (and perhaps he, himself) had placed him in. He now knew that he had many more boxes to go beyond.

These statement tee-shirts are made of 100 per cent recycled fabric – 40 per cent is recycled from waste plastic bottles and 60 per cent from cotton textile waste. The plastic bottles are shredded into chips, which are then melted to extract polyester. The pre-consumer textile waste from mills is repurposed by separating the cotton scraps by colour. The scraps are then converted into recycled cotton fibre. Both these fibres are fused together to create a fibre that’s 100 per cent recycled. The fibre is spun into yarn, which is then woven into fabric.

Viscose and modal are fibres derived from plants. They comprise a compound called cellulose, which lends stiffness and support to plants. This cellulose is extracted and then realigned, to create a fabric that is soft, durable and breathable. When both the fibres are combined, modal imparts lightness, and a fine feel to the fabric. Both the fibres are responsibly sourced and have a low carbon footprint.
