Story

Dear Diary,

Today, it rained. I’d heard so much about the rains in Bombay. Those who live here, love them. Those who’ve moved here can’t see what the fuss is about. I wondered what I would think of it. As it turned out, I didn’t have much of a choice - the rain arrived abruptly, without much fanfare. It had been a very hot day and when the evening brought a cool breeze with it, I thought it would offer much needed respite. But, as I was walking home, the sky turned dark and big droplets planted themselves on my head and my person. Before I could react, I was soaked through, as was everyone around me. However, I lacked their dexterity - their ability to disappear under awnings and temporary shelters, where they would wait for the skies to relent. I foolishly decided to persevere, and it was the longest, scariest walk I’d ever taken. The streets soon turned to mini rivers and I struggled to find my footing. The auto-rickshaws and taxis refused to ply, leaving so many stranded. As I shivered on my long, lonely walk home, I thought about Ma and how she’d somehow make things better if she’d been around. How I’d be greeted with warm chai, a warm hug and hot pakoras to take the edge off. All I had here was myself and, for the first time since I’d move, I felt very small and very alone. Perhaps tomorrow will be a better day? For today, all I can hope for is a restful night’s sleep.

Look for the silver lining in life’s darkest clouds, when you wear this multi-coloured cotton dress.

Description

The mul cotton is what we call ‘made in heaven’ at Suta. Known in West Bengal as mul mul, the fabric is buttery soft and delicately beautiful. The weave of this fabric is very fine, and this lends a very fluid texture to it that makes draping it a breeze. It is truly like a hug that wraps you in its love!
